  • Additional information: L. elvensis is the type species of Lepidotes. It was described by Ducrotay de Blainville in 1818. It is known from an almost complete specimen kept in the Paris Museum of Natural History. The specimen is up to 75 centimeters long. The specimen comes from the Upper Lias in Bavaria. The outer bones of this species are smooth, but some have sparse, coarse tubercles (projections). The frontal bone in the specimens is more than twice as long as the parietal bone. It also has a comparatively narrow marginal symphysis (joint).
