- Origin: Kemmerer, Wyoming, USA
- Size: L99.5cm W48.3cm D5cm
- Age: Eocene, 50 million years old
- Description: The large stingray specimen [Heliobatis radians] shows very detailed preservation, particularly the body including tubercles, pelvic fins and tail along with four fish specimens all swimming in different directions, which is unusual. The matrix with all four edges is cut straight, glued to a passe-partout and framed.
- Additional Information: The Green River Formation in Wyoming, USA, is home to some of the best-preserved Eocene fossil specimens on Earth. The diversity of the seas during this period is well represented in the present fossil triptych, which contains more than a dozen specimens of three of the most famous extinct fish species from the Eocene - the large Diplomystus with its sloping head, the Priscacara with its broad ray fins and the little Knightia. Each fossil fish slab has been carefully recovered from the stone, and hundreds of hours of excavation work reveal finely preserved fish specimens whose anatomy stands out clearly from the matrix.
