- Description: These impressively large heteromorph ammonites on matrix display their typical rolled, finely ribbed shell. These beautiful specimens of the extinct cephalopod, found in the marine deposits of the Hauterivian, impress with their incredibly fine spines.
- Age: Lower Cretaceous, Upper Hauterivian, about 133 million years
- Additional information: Ammonites were shell-less cephalopods that became extinct about 66 million years ago. Fossils of them are found all over the world. Ammonites are extinct shelled cephalopods. They all had a chambered shell that they used for buoyancy.
