- Description: This extraordinary specimen of a 180-million-year-old Ichthyosaur comes from the famous Lias Epsilon layers of the Urweltsteinbruch quarry in Holzmaden, Germany. The fossil is remarkably well-preserved and has been prepared with exceptional precision, resulting in a near-complete reconstruction. It is particularly noteworthy that the head of this Ichthyosaur comes from another, equally well-preserved specimen, which has been seamlessly integrated into the overall structure through excellent preparation. The head position and front flipper paddle have been precisely aligned, making the fossil tangible in its original form and anatomy. The well-preserved teeth and visible stomach contents preserved beneath the ribs offer valuable insights into the lifestyle and diet of this marine reptile.
