• Provenance: Holzmaden, Germany
• Dimensions: H60cm W180cm D4cm
• Description: This small Ichthyosaurus fossil shows very well-preserved, articulated bones, offering valuable insights into the animal's anatomy and structure. While the majority of the specimen is exceptionally well-preserved, the dorsal fin is not complete. However, modern preparation techniques can further enhance the overall quality of the fossil, allowing the fine details of this prehistoric marine reptile to emerge even more clearly.
• Additional Information: Ichthyosaurs, distant relatives of lizards and snakes (lepidosaurs), were the most specialized aquatic reptiles, but not dinosaurs. They had a very wide geographic distribution, and their fossil records span almost the entire Mesozoic Era. They were most common and diverse during the Triassic and Jurassic periods. Excellent fossils are found in the fine-grained shales of the Early Jurassic in Southern Germany.
• Miscellaneous: Certificate of release available from the State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart, Germany.
