- Origin: Western Australia
- Age: Older Proterozoic, about 2.5 billion years ago
- Size: H8cm W32cm D33.5cm
- Description: The 2.5 billion year old tiger iron is visual evidence of the first life forms on our planet Earth. Dating from the Early Proterozoic, this specimen of the Marra Mamba Iron Formation features a broad chatoyant band, ground and polished into a shell, with a wavy fire-colored coloration. The base is ground flat for display.
- Additional information: Found in Western Australia, this highly iridescent ironstone is one of the rarest and most colorful of all tiger eyes. Likely of stromatolite origin, this fossil is among the earliest signs of life on Earth, and as a semi-precious stone it is also one of the most beautiful.
