- Description: Dating from the Triassic period (approximately 220 million years old), the Araucarioxylon arizonicum has been cut in cross-section and polished to reveal the rich colors that have made this site so famous, while carefully preserving the texture of the edges.
- Additional Information: Petrified wood is fossilized wood in which all organic matter has been replaced by minerals, while retaining the structure of the wood. The petrification process takes place underground when a tree is buried under sediment and can take millions of years. The smallest details can be immortalized, such as tree rings and various tissues. Petrified wood has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, which is the same as quartz.
