Due to its striking bright green color and its occurrence in the weathering zone of almost all copper deposits, malachite serves as a guide in copper prospecting. Significant deposits are Nizhny Tagil (Siberia), Chessy (France), Tsumeb (Namibia), and Bisbee, Arizona (USA). Malachite has been used as both an ornamental stone and a gemstone. It is more common and widespread than azurite, with which it usually occurs.
